A 19th Century manor, described by those who work there as Lincolnshire’s “hidden version of Hogwarts”, will open its doors to visitors for two days.

The Grade I listed Harlaxton Manor, near Grantham, will host The Summer Open House on Sunday 30 and Monday 31 August.

The building is home to Harlaxton College, which is the British campus of the University of Evansville in the United States, and is rarely open to the public.

Bethan Watson, events manager, said: “It is always a pleasure to share this remarkable estate with the public and give people the opportunity to experience the history, architecture and beautiful surroundings that make the manor so incredibly special.”

The manor is known for its mix of Elizabethan, Jacobean and Baroque architecture

Harlaxton Manor was built in 1831 by Nottinghamshire businessman Gregory Gregory.

It has had many purposes over the years, from being used as a training ground and officers’ mess during World Wars One and Two, to a training centre for Jesuit priests.

It has also been used for TV and film productions.

Guests will be able to explore the manor and the gardens, and take part in traditional lawn games.

The Summer Open House will run from 10:00 to 17:00 BST on Sunday 30 and Monday 31 August, with the last admission at 16:00.

Ticket prices can be found on the manor’s website, and booking in advance is recommended.
