China censors videos showing deadly flash floods on the Nepal-Tibet border
Dramatic footage showing flash floods tearing through the main border crossing between Nepal and Tibet has been widely shared around the world.
But the footage has become almost impossible to find on China’s heavily censored internet service, with only a single image broadcast by state media.
Hundreds of people are feared dead, and thousands remain missing as a major rescue operation continues into the weekend.
On Saturday, Chinese state media shared videos of rescue teams searching through mud and debris, but there has been little footage of the floods themselves, or accounts from survivors or anxious families.
Tibet remains a highly sensitive subject for China following its annexation in the 1950s. The region has long demanded greater autonomy and is one of the most strictly controlled regions in the country, with access for foreign media tightly restricted.
