A man in his 60s has died following a crash in County Cavan.

A car and van collided on the N3 at Drummallaght, between Virginia and Cavan town on Monday afternoon.

Irish broadcaster RTÉ is reporting that the man who died was the driver of the car.

A woman in her 60s, who was a passenger in the car, was seriously injured and was airlifted to hospital.

The van driver, a man in his 50s, was taken to hospital for minor injuries.

Police have appealed for witnesses and want to hear from motorists who may have video footage from the area from between 13:00 and 14:00 local time.
